“Alclair Outdoors and Robotic Weed Control”

GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, April 18, 2024 - On the next Prairie Sportsman, learn about the story behind Alclair Outdoors and how researchers are testing a weed terminator in a cornfield. “Alclair Outdoors and Robotic Weed Control” airs Sunday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. on Pioneer PBS. In “Hearing for Hunters” learn about how the founders of Alclair Outdoors understand the importance of hearing protection for hunters and the detriments caused by hearing loss. The company, based in Osseo, Minnesota, manufactures ear protectors that do not take away from the hunting experience and camaraderie. 

The next segment, “Weed Terminator,” features the West Central Research and Outreach Center’s work in developing solar-powered robots that could revolutionize non-chemical weed control in farm fields and how this University of Minnesota research center in Morris is already testing an autonomous weed cutter in a cornfield.

In this week's Fast Forage segment, Nicole Zempel harvests hen of the woods. Found near oak trees, this rosette-like fungus is known for its beefy flavor.
